Bearys Group of Educational Institutions proudly inaugurated its Rangers Rovers unit under the Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka, with the esteemed P.G.R. Sindya, Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka and former minister, gracing the event as the chief guest. In his inaugural address, Sindya highlighted the critical importance of environmental education, emphasizing, “The primary objective of this camp is to study nature. I commend Bearys administration for integrating environmental awareness into education at this picturesque coastal location. Fostering environmental consciousness in such settings is crucial, and our vision is to make Karnataka a land of prosperity, fragrance, and perennial water resources.”
For the past 38 months, Bearys Institution has been actively spearheading the “Clean Green Kodi” initiative, aiming to make the coastline free from plastic waste. The efforts were applauded by the Bharat Scouts and Guides unit, recognizing Bearys for its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. Dr. Asif Beary, a trustee of Bearys, expressed pride in the institution’s association with Scouts and Guides, stating, “We already have a Scouts and Guides unit, and with the inauguration of the Rangers Rovers unit today, we take another significant step. This unit will nurture strong character and intellectual abilities in students, empowering them to contribute positively to society.”
The event also featured an engaging session by Venkatesh Sherigar from Reef Watch, who shared valuable insights into sea turtle conservation. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, District Chief Commissioner, congratulated Bearys for offering Scouts and Guides Rangers Rovers opportunities to students from 21 districts across the state. Haji K.M. Abdul Rahman Beary, President of Bearys Group of Institutions, presided over the event, inspiring the youth to develop responsibility, physical and intellectual strength, and social awareness.
A highlight of the event was the visit to the Kodi Green Mosque, where all attending students, Rangers, Rovers, and dignitaries, including P.G.R. Sindya, praised the mosque’s unique design, which incorporates solar and wind energy systems to achieve on-site “Net-Zero” status. The mosque has been recognized by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) as the first “place of worship” to achieve this milestone. Sindya urged students to make sustainability and green practices a way of life.
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Sumana (State Assistant Organization Commissioner), Gururaj (Deputy RF Officer), Praveen (Scouts Leader), and Anand Adiga (District Secretary, Bharat Scouts and Guides). Also present were Bearys Institution’s academic leaders: Prof. Siddappa K.S. (Principal, Bearys B.Ed. College), Prof. Shabeena (Principal, Bearys Degree College), Dr. Firdous (Principal, Bearys D.Ed. College), Ashwini Shetty (Principal, Bearys PU College& Bearys Seaside Public School), Dr. Poornima Shetty (Head of Academic Affairs), Praveen Kumar K.P. (Vice-Principal, Bearys B.Ed. College), and Rangers Rovers trainers Shruti, Gaurish Shetty, and Shreelakha.
The event was marked by enthusiastic participation from School Development Committee members, local dignitaries, faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Firdous delivered the welcome address, Priya Rego, an English lecturer, hosted the proceedings, and Lamis Laraib, a psychology lecturer, offered the vote of thanks.
